Wow! It’s like the composition itself determines the space it needs… or something like that. I’m kinda blown away by it!
thanks, yes, it’s very freeing painting over the edges of several canvases like this, and not constrained even by a final external rectangle. It’s if the work could continue onwards and outwards indefinitely. And you’re right, it seems to give the work some autonomy. I really wanted to keep going, which is whybI painted 3 more canvases almost straight away, but those weren’t nearly as successful. ( you can see the 3 later ones on facebook, under the title ‘argh!
