Blood and concrete

These are ‘Blood and Concrete ‘ 1 & 2

Each piece 100 x 80cm on canvas plus frame.

They were exhibited last month at Green Fuse Gallery in Westport, County Mayo.

I have submitted them to ‘Cairde Visual’ at the Model, in Sligo for their annual juried Summer show as part of Cairde Festival. I should hear soon if they have been selected. Fingers crossed!

These pieces developed out of my response to images of destruction in Aleppo, Syria. However, I don’t see them as sad paintings, but abstract images in their own right. It’s up to the viewer to make their own interpretation. I would be interested to hear from anyone if they have a particular reaction. Thanks

journey inward

These are the 4 stages of my most recent largish canvas
It is on coarse unstretched (and creased badly from being in my suitcase) jute canvas about 4′ x 3′

This was actually the second session, I forgot to take a photo of when it was all red and yellow, with a bit of turquoise,  stapled to the floor on Saturday morning

Sunday, more sombre with shapes consolidating

Early Monday morning – loads of alizarin crimson overlaid on the lower half and a mess in the middle and a scatty unresolved indecisive upper third

image

small, textured works on paper or multi media board in oil and wax
sizes between 16 x 12cm and 25 x 16cm
all made in November at Ballinglen Arts Foundation, County Mayo
inspired by a trip to the neolithic field walls at Ceide Fields on the North Mayo Coast

I would love to mount these together and show in a small museum, library or somewhere interested in these 5 thousand year old artifacts from a community who lived and farmed in a time before the wheel and before the metal plough

If anyone is interested, from anywhere in the world, please contact me  liz-doyle@live.com

These two paaintings, ‘underneath’ and’sea bed’ have been selected to be exhibited at Workshop, a new gallery space in Raval, Barcelona. I have just booked my flights to go over for the opening night.

Woa, you might say, isnt that a bit extreme to go so far just because two paintings have been selected for a group show?

Well the other exciting news is that while I am there I am going to be interviewed and therefore might appear in a new documentary film called Brand Irish being made by a film company based in Barcelona called PadiProductions

PadiProductions have won awards for their previous productions including Zero Tolerance

Workshop and Brand Irish are both on Facebook and Twitter, and  Brand Irish has  a WordPress blog too
