I am on a weeks workshop with artist Rebecca Crowell at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle County Mayo

http://www.ballinglenartsfoundation.org/

My work this week is very influenced by a fantastic day trip we made out to Ceide Feilds

This is a huge extensive neolithic site, where a network of over 50 miles of buried stone boundary walls have been identified from a farming community living on this coastline over 5,000 years ago. The individual rocks from here and around another landmark, Benwee head, and the intriguing plan of the layout of the walls have found their way onto the surface of these paintings

time for red

Bought some new paints today as I have completely run out
Had to buy locally where there isn’t much choice
They only had red, yellow blue and white in big tubes, so I got all three
Realized that I don’t use red much, or not recently anyway
Is that something to do with mood?
Anyway, here are some red works from a few months ago

Back in the studio briefly, had to lay down some colour
Working on two canvases 80cm square
Started with oil bar, then a very liquid oil mixed in a jar with Malmittel quick drying medium
Used a roller to spread about, turning the canvas round frequently
Will work on them again when tacky still, maybe later today or tomorrow
