graffiti and vandalism

I haven’t quite known how to share my recent works and talk about them here up till now. I’m having a bit of ‘breakdown’ perhaps. Not an illness. Just in painting terms. I am experimenting with pouring paint. Over older dry paintings. It’s hard to explain why. Or what it means. I hope this aggressive, bold use of strong colour, with forms forming themselves, directed by gravity and manipulated by the tilt of the canvas or a blot with tissue, will lead somewhere. In the meantime maybe they can say something for themselves.

On Facebook a friend commented that I am bringing graffiti and vandalism into the studio. Yes! I think the friend is right. Sometimes we need to force a change. To fight off the status quo.

so fantastic to have 2 paintings in Barcelona at Workshop in Raval. Opening on Saturday night was fantastic, with a great 3 piece band and a warm welcome from Kat Penney the curator and Sara Gibbings, directir at PadiProductions for the documentary they are making, Brand Irish.
I arrived slightly earlier than expected, rather flustered, straight from my flight from Dublin. Thoroughly overexcited like a kid on Christmas morning!

Went on a 4 hour ramble through the backstreets of Barcelona this morning (Sunday 9th November 2014). Amazing graffiti, even building sites are cool in Barcelona!

After a good wander round the Barri Gothic, came back up to Raval and into the c alm beautiful courtyard of the old hospital building which now houses a library, and where there were some great statues, this one particularly lovely with her Barcelona style adornments!
